AI in Asset Protection: Leadership Lessons from Retail Leaders

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is quickly becoming one of the most influential technologies shaping the future of Asset Protection. Across the retail industry, organizations are exploring how AI can improve investigations, strengthen data analysis, increase operational efficiency, and help security teams make faster, more informed decisions.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of moderating a panel on AI in Asset Protection at the RILA Asset Protection Conference alongside senior leaders from Costco, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Dollar General. Together, we discussed how Artificial Intelligence is influencing today’s Asset Protection organizations and where it may take our profession in the years ahead.

While every retailer represented on the panel was at a different stage of its AI journey, the conversation consistently returned to the same themes. The biggest lessons weren’t about technology itself. They were about leadership, trust, adaptability, and solving meaningful business problems.

Those discussions reinforced several beliefs I already had about AI, and more importantly, they highlighted where I believe Asset Protection is headed over the next several years.

Here are the three biggest observations I walked away with from moderating that discussion.

AI in Asset Protection Starts with People, Not Technology

One of the strongest themes throughout our discussion was that successful AI adoption has very little to do with the technology itself.

When people hear “Artificial Intelligence,” they often think about computer vision, predictive analytics, automation, or machine learning. Those technologies are certainly changing the industry, but they weren’t the center of the conversation. People were.

How do organizations introduce AI without creating fear?

How do leaders build trust?

How do teams understand that AI is designed to enhance their work rather than replace it?

Those questions are far more important than selecting the newest software platform.

Every retailer emphasized that AI should eliminate repetitive work, process larger volumes of data, and provide better insights so Asset Protection professionals can spend more time where they create the greatest value—conducting investigations, coaching stores, partnering with operations, and protecting people.

One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding AI is that it will replace Asset Protection professionals.

I believe the opposite is true.

AI can recognize patterns, identify anomalies, and analyze enormous amounts of information far faster than any person. What it cannot replace is experience, judgment, leadership, and the ability to make informed decisions.

Technology can accelerate decision-making.

People remain responsible for making the decisions.

Organizations that invest in change management, communication, and employee development alongside AI will ultimately see the greatest return from their technology investments.

AI Should Solve Business Problems, Not Become the Business Strategy

Another theme that surfaced repeatedly throughout the panel was that the most successful organizations aren’t implementing AI simply because it’s available.

They’re implementing it because they’re solving specific business challenges.

That distinction matters.

Too often, organizations begin by asking:

“Where can we use AI?”

A much better question is:

“What problem are we trying to solve?”

Whether the objective is improving investigations, identifying fraud patterns, analyzing exception data, reducing manual work, or helping field teams prioritize risk, AI should always support a clearly defined business objective.

Technology should never become the strategy.

Business outcomes should.

This mindset also changes how organizations evaluate solution providers.

Rather than chasing the newest features, successful Asset Protection leaders focus on measurable outcomes, operational improvements, return on investment, and solutions that integrate into existing business processes.

Artificial Intelligence is an incredibly powerful tool, but like every technology before it, its value is determined by how effectively organizations apply it to real business challenges.

The Future of Asset Protection Leadership Is Already Changing

Perhaps the most interesting part of our discussion wasn’t about technology at all.

It was about leadership.

As the conversation shifted toward hiring, developing teams, and preparing for the future, one thing became clear.

No one talked about hiring AI experts.

Instead, we discussed the importance of curiosity.

Adaptability.

Continuous learning.

Cross-functional collaboration.

Business acumen.

Those qualities are becoming increasingly important as Asset Protection continues evolving beyond traditional investigations and shrink reduction.

Today’s leaders are expected to partner with Legal, IT, Operations, Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, and executive leadership. They’re interpreting data, influencing business strategy, and helping organizations responsibly adopt emerging technologies.

That’s a very different role than our profession held even ten years ago.

The future Asset Protection professional won’t simply understand investigations or security technology.

They’ll understand how security supports the business.

They’ll know how to communicate across departments.

They’ll embrace innovation without losing sight of the human element.

Most importantly, they’ll remain curious enough to keep evolving as our profession evolves.

The Bottom Line

After moderating a discussion with senior Asset Protection leaders from three of the world’s largest retailers, one thing became very clear.

Artificial Intelligence isn’t redefining Asset Protection because of the technology itself.

It’s redefining how we think about leadership.

The organizations that will benefit most from AI won’t necessarily be the ones with the biggest technology budgets or the newest software.

They’ll be the ones that build trust with their teams, solve meaningful business problems, invest in continuous learning, and use AI to empower people rather than replace them.

Asset Protection has always been about protecting people, reducing risk, and enabling the business to succeed.

AI doesn’t change that mission.

It simply gives us another powerful tool to accomplish it more effectively.

Predictive Analytics in Security: How Data and AI Prevent Threats Before They Happen

(And Why Guessing Is No Longer a Strategy.)

Let’s be honest—most security programs still run on reaction.
Something happens. Someone reviews footage. Reports get filed. And everyone says the same thing: “We’ll tighten protocols next time.”

(And Why Guessing Is No Longer a Strategy.)

Let’s be honest—most security programs still run on reaction.
Something happens. Someone reviews footage. Reports get filed. And everyone says the same thing: “We’ll tighten protocols next time.”

But “next time” is exactly what predictive analytics is designed to eliminate.

Instead of reacting to incidents, organizations are now using data, AI, and machine learning to spot warning signs before something happens. This isn’t science fiction—it’s already transforming how security teams plan, respond, and protect.

From Reactive to Proactive: The Shift That Changed Everything

For years, security relied on historical reports and human instincts. You’d identify trends, maybe tweak staffing or patrol routes, but it was always after an incident.

Predictive analytics flips that model on its head.

By analyzing patterns in access logs, video footage, sensor data, and even environmental conditions, modern systems can detect subtle anomalies that signal risk—before it becomes a problem.

A gate badge being used at odd hours

A vehicle repeatedly circling a restricted area

Temperature spikes near a critical asset

Employee behavior changing before an internal breach

Each of these might seem harmless on its own. But together? They form a pattern—and predictive analytics is built to see that pattern when humans can’t.

How It Works (Without the Tech Overload)

At its core, predictive analytics uses AI algorithms to connect the dots across massive streams of security data.

Here’s the simplified version:

Collect: Systems pull data from cameras, access control, alarms, and IoT sensors.

Analyze: AI models look for unusual trends or deviations from normal behavior.

Predict: The system estimates where and when risks might emerge.

Alert: Security teams get real-time notifications to act before incidents unfold.

It’s not about replacing people—it’s about giving them superpowers.

Instead of scanning endless footage, your team can focus on what matters: prevention over response.

Why Predictive Analytics Matters Now

Threats are evolving faster than ever—especially for industries like retail, energy, and logistics where downtime equals loss.

Predictive systems help by:

Cutting response times through early detection

Reducing false alarms by learning what’s “normal”

Improving resource allocation—knowing when and where to deploy staff

Delivering actionable intelligence for long-term risk reduction

According to a report by MarketsandMarkets, the predictive security analytics market is expected to surpass $20 billion by 2030, driven by demand for real-time insights and automation.

That’s not hype—it’s a reflection of how fast the industry is adapting.

What It Looks Like in the Real World

Imagine a large distribution hub.

Thousands of vehicles move through daily, with dozens of access points and hundreds of employees. Normally, security would review logs after a theft or intrusion.

With predictive analytics in place:

The system notices an unusual spike in activity at a rear gate.

It cross-references this with nearby motion sensors and vehicle logs.

An alert is sent before any breach occurs.

The difference? Minutes instead of hours. Prevention instead of cleanup.

The Human Element Isn’t Going Anywhere

Here’s the truth: predictive systems are only as effective as the people who use them.
You still need human judgment to interpret the data, verify the risk, and decide how to act.

What predictive analytics does is give security professionals better visibility and faster clarity—so they can make smarter decisions, sooner.

This is collaboration, not automation.

Final Thoughts: The End of “We Didn’t See It Coming”

Security shouldn’t depend on hindsight anymore.
Predictive analytics gives you foresight—the ability to see what’s next and act before it happens.

The companies adopting it today aren’t just preventing incidents—they’re building resilience into their operations.

So the real question is:
If you could stop your next security incident before it starts… wouldn’t you?

Security Fatigue: The Hidden Risk Inside Monitoring Teams

(And Why Burnout Is Becoming a Security Vulnerability)

By Ryan Mueller

(And Why Burnout Is Becoming a Security Vulnerability)

By Ryan Mueller

No one talks about security fatigue.

They talk about staffing shortages.
They talk about technology gaps.
They talk about response times.

But they rarely talk about the human exhaustion building inside monitoring rooms and security operations centers.

And that exhaustion?
It’s a risk multiplier.

Security fatigue isn’t just burnout.

It’s a performance problem.

What Is Security Fatigue?

Security fatigue happens when monitoring teams are exposed to:

Constant alerts

Repetitive false alarms

Long shifts with minimal variation

High cognitive demand with low perceived impact

Pressure to never miss “the big one”

Over time, attention dulls.

Reaction slows.

Judgment narrows.

And in security operations, seconds matter.

The Hidden Cost of Alarm Fatigue

Most security systems generate massive alert volumes.

The majority aren’t real threats.

When operators process hundreds of alerts per shift, the brain adapts. It has to.

This is where alarm fatigue sets in.

Real alerts start to look like routine ones.

Verification gets rushed.

Escalations get delayed.

Confidence erodes.

The danger isn’t that teams don’t care.

It’s that they’re overloaded.

And overloaded systems — human or technological — fail.

Why Monitoring Teams Are More Vulnerable Than You Think

Security operations centers (SOCs) were built to increase visibility.

But more visibility without intelligent filtering creates pressure.

Imagine staring at walls of feeds for 10 hours.

Minimal movement.
Sudden spikes.
Constant alert tones.

That environment creates:

Cognitive fatigue

Reduced situational awareness

Slower anomaly recognition

Higher turnover rates

Security fatigue doesn’t show up in reports.

It shows up in missed signals.

The Business Risk Behind Burnout

Security fatigue isn’t just an HR issue.

It’s operational exposure.

Fatigued monitoring teams increase:

Response delays

False dismissals

Escalation hesitation

Liability risk if a verified alert is ignored

Now consider this:

What happens when the one real breach alert looks like the 300 false ones before it?

That’s where fatigue becomes a vulnerability.

The Shift: Designing Systems That Reduce Cognitive Load

Modern security architecture must account for human bandwidth.

Reducing security fatigue requires:

AI filtering that eliminates non-critical alerts

Event validation before operator escalation

Integrated systems that cross-reference triggers

Smart dashboards that prioritize threat severity

Rotational monitoring structures to reduce monotony

The goal isn’t replacing people.

It’s protecting their attention.

Because attention is the most valuable asset inside a monitoring center.

What It Looks Like in Practice

Old model:

Motion alert → operator reviews → likely nothing → repeat.

New model:

Sensor activates → AI classifies → system cross-checks access logs → only validated alerts reach the operator.

Instead of watching everything, teams focus on what matters.

Less noise.
More clarity.
Better decisions.

Frequently Asked Question

What causes security fatigue in monitoring teams?
Security fatigue is primarily caused by excessive false alarms, long monitoring shifts, high cognitive demand, repetitive tasks, and systems that escalate alerts without intelligent filtering.

Final Thoughts

Security fatigue is invisible — until it isn’t.

You won’t see it on a dashboard.
You won’t find it in a contract.

But you’ll feel it in slower responses, missed signals, and rising turnover.

Modern security isn’t just about smarter systems.

It’s about sustainable systems.

Because when the real alert hits, your team shouldn’t be exhausted.

They should be sharp.

By: Ryan Mueller

By: Ryan Mueller

As organizations move into the second half of the year, the July 2026 Security Update highlights a clear shift in how security leaders are approaching risk. Rather than focusing on a single threat, organizations are strengthening operational resilience across people, technology, and third party relationships.

Recent industry reporting points to a common theme: today’s greatest security challenges often emerge from the intersection of cyber risk, vendor dependencies, insider activity, and increasingly complex business operations. Organizations that can identify these connections and respond quickly will be better positioned to maintain business continuity.

Third Party Risk Continues to Grow

Organizations continue to expand their reliance on cloud providers, software vendors, and managed service partners. While these relationships improve efficiency and scalability, they also introduce new operational risks.

Recent industry research found that many organizations experienced operational disruptions caused by third party providers over the past year, yet a large percentage still do not continuously monitor their digital supply chain. This disconnect is leading many organizations to reassess how they evaluate vendor risk and business continuity.

Organizations are increasingly reviewing:

Vendor cybersecurity assessments

Supply chain visibility

Business continuity planning

Contingency procedures for critical partners

As businesses become more connected, resilience depends not only on your own security program but also on the organizations that support it.

Threat Intelligence Is Shifting Toward Better Prioritization

Security teams have access to more intelligence than ever before, but turning that information into meaningful action remains a challenge.

Recent reporting found that many organizations consume numerous threat intelligence feeds, yet most still struggle to identify which vulnerabilities are most likely to be exploited. At the same time, security teams continue spending valuable time investigating alerts that ultimately prove to be low priority.

Organizations are responding by focusing on:

Threat prioritization

Automated validation

Better integration across security platforms

Faster incident response

The challenge is no longer collecting more information. It is ensuring the right information reaches the right people at the right time.

This trend closely aligns with our recent article on The Hidden Cost of False Alarms in Security Systems, where we explore how alert fatigue and poor signal quality can slow response and impact operational effectiveness.

Insider Risk Is Receiving Renewed Attention

While ransomware and external cyber threats often dominate headlines, insider risk is becoming a growing priority for many security leaders.

Not every insider incident is malicious. Many originate from well intentioned employees who bypass established security procedures for convenience, unintentionally creating opportunities for data loss or operational disruption.

Organizations are reinforcing:

Employee security awareness

Cross functional collaboration between Security, HR, and IT

Clear reporting procedures

A culture where employees feel comfortable reporting concerning behavior

Technology remains an important safeguard, but awareness and communication continue to be some of the strongest defenses against insider risk.

Cyber Resilience Continues to Evolve

Recent cyber incidents affecting large organizations serve as another reminder that customer facing platforms, payment systems, and connected business services remain attractive targets for threat actors.

Rather than focusing solely on prevention, organizations are strengthening their ability to detect, respond, and recover quickly when incidents occur.

Areas receiving increased attention include:

Incident response planning

Business continuity strategies

Critical system redundancy

Vendor and supply chain resilience

Cyber resilience is becoming an essential part of operational resilience across every industry. As organizations expand critical infrastructure, these priorities also reinforce why Data Center Physical Security Is Struggling to Keep Up has become such an important discussion across the security industry.

What Organizations Should Be Doing Now

The July 2026 Security Update reinforces that now is a good time to review:

Third party risk management processes

Business continuity and incident response plans

Employee security awareness programs

Critical vendor contingency planning

Threat prioritization and escalation procedures

Organizations that strengthen resilience across people, processes, and technology will be better positioned to adapt as risks continue to evolve. Maintaining resilient operations also means recognizing the impact of Security Fatigue Inside Monitoring Teams, especially as organizations continue to process more alerts and more information than ever before.

Final Thoughts

The July 2026 Security Update demonstrates that security is no longer defined by a single discipline. Cybersecurity, physical security, operational resilience, and third party risk are becoming increasingly interconnected, requiring organizations to think beyond traditional security boundaries.

As organizations continue investing in smarter infrastructure and detection capabilities, the principles discussed in The Future of Perimeter Security: Smarter Systems for a Safer World remain just as relevant today. Technology continues to evolve, but preparedness, adaptability, and informed decision making remain the foundation of every effective security program.

At NJB Protection, we continue to monitor emerging trends across the security landscape and translate those insights into practical guidance. Staying informed is important. Building resilience is what makes the difference.

Helping Healthcare: Threats, Solutions, and Real-World Lessons

Helping Healthcare: Threats, Solutions, and Real-World Lessons

For years, many healthcare organizations approached security primarily as a response function.

An incident happened. Security responded. Reports were filed. Operations moved forward.

But today’s healthcare environments are facing a very different reality.

Workplace violence is increasing, staffing shortages continue to intensify, and frontline healthcare workers are experiencing significantly higher levels of aggression, threats, and burnout.

The numbers are becoming impossible to ignore, and many healthcare organizations are realizing that traditional approaches to safety are no longer enough.

And the numbers are becoming impossible to ignore.

Healthcare workers now face workplace violence at nearly four times the rate of other industries, contributing to an estimated $18 billion annual impact across the healthcare system.

But the financial impact only tells part of the story. The larger issue is what this environment is doing to workforce stability.

Because when frontline workers do not feel safe, retention suffers.

Experienced staff leave, burnout accelerates, and new healthcare professionals begin questioning whether the environment is sustainable long term. At that point, the issue becomes much larger than security alone.

It becomes a workforce stability issue that directly impacts healthcare operations.

At ISC West, one healthcare-focused session stood out for addressing this challenge directly. The discussion centered around how healthcare organizations are rethinking safety strategies through integrated security technologies, operational collaboration, and more proactive approaches to protecting frontline workers.

And one theme became very clear throughout the conversation.

Healthcare security is no longer just about responding to incidents.

It is becoming a critical operational strategy tied directly to staffing, retention, patient trust, and long-term organizational resilience.

Healthcare Security Is Becoming a Workforce Issue

One of the strongest takeaways from the session was the growing connection between safety and staffing.

For years, staffing shortages have dominated healthcare conversations. But increasingly, organizations are realizing that workplace violence and safety concerns are actively contributing to the staffing crisis itself.

The environment itself is becoming part of the retention problem.

When nurses, clinicians, and frontline staff repeatedly experience aggressive behavior, verbal threats, or unsafe working conditions, the long-term impact extends far beyond individual incidents.

It affects morale, burnout, and long-term retention across healthcare organizations. Over time, it also impacts culture, operational efficiency, and the overall perception of safety within healthcare environments.

And it influences whether new workers are willing to enter the industry at all.

The session highlighted how many healthcare workers believe stronger security measures could help prevent incidents, yet many organizations still struggle to implement meaningful improvements.

That gap is creating operational pressure across healthcare systems already operating with limited resources.

As a result, healthcare organizations are beginning to view security investments differently.

Not simply as protective measures, but as workforce stabilization strategies tied directly to retention, operational continuity, and employee well-being.

Security Is Becoming a Force Multiplier

A phrase that repeatedly surfaced during the discussion was “security as a force multiplier.”

And in many ways, that concept defines where healthcare security is heading.

Most healthcare organizations cannot simply solve safety concerns by continuously adding more personnel.

Resource limitations, labor shortages, and the sheer size of many healthcare campuses make that approach increasingly difficult to sustain long term.

Instead, organizations are looking for ways to extend the effectiveness of existing teams through integrated security systems, better visibility, and smarter operational workflows.

That includes technologies such as:

AI-enabled surveillance systems

Integrated visitor management platforms

Wearable duress buttons

Emergency lockdown systems

Unified credentialing

Real-time alerting and analytics

Advanced access control systems

When properly integrated, these technologies allow smaller security teams to respond faster, improve situational awareness, and coordinate more effectively across complex healthcare environments.

But the session also reinforced an important point: technology alone is not the solution.

Healthcare environments require layered security strategies that combine technology, people, process, and operational coordination.

Healthcare Requires Layered Security

One of the most practical themes discussed throughout the session was the importance of layered security.

Healthcare environments are uniquely complex.

Hospitals must remain accessible and welcoming while simultaneously protecting staff, patients, visitors, and sensitive areas. That creates challenges many other industries simply do not face.

This becomes even more difficult when emotions, stress, and unpredictable situations are already elevated.

Unlike high-security environments where restrictive barriers may be acceptable, healthcare organizations must balance safety with patient experience.

As a result, successful healthcare security strategies increasingly rely on layered approaches that combine:

Technology

Personnel

Operational processes

Facility design

Training and de-escalation

Cross-functional coordination

The session highlighted how technologies such as panic buttons, integrated cameras, AI-powered alerts, and visitor management systems are most effective when paired with clearly defined response workflows and trained personnel.

Because in high-stress environments, technology without operational clarity can quickly create confusion rather than improve safety.

The organizations seeing the most success are the ones aligning security operations, frontline communication, and response workflows together.

Healthcare Security Is Shifting From Reactive to Proactive

Another major theme throughout the session was the shift from reactive security to proactive risk management.

That shift is fundamentally changing how healthcare organizations think about safety. The focus is increasingly moving toward prevention rather than response.

Historically, many healthcare security programs focused primarily on responding after incidents occurred.

But modern healthcare organizations are increasingly leveraging data, analytics, and AI-driven technologies to identify risks before situations escalate.

That includes:

Monitoring behavioral patterns

Identifying repeat incidents or high-risk areas

Tracking persons of interest

Improving real-time situational awareness

Enhancing emergency coordination

Reducing response times across large campuses

AI-driven systems are increasingly being used to help healthcare organizations process information faster and improve decision-making during critical events.

The goal is not simply to document incidents after they happen.

The goal is to identify patterns early, reduce escalation risks, and prevent incidents whenever possible.

And that shift represents a major evolution in how healthcare organizations approach safety.

Frontline Worker Feedback Matters More Than Ever

One of the strongest operational takeaways from the session was the importance of involving frontline workers directly in security conversations.

Because the individuals closest to the risks often have the clearest understanding of what is actually needed.

The session repeatedly emphasized that leadership assumptions do not always align with frontline realities.

What leadership believes improves safety is not always what frontline teams experience day to day.

Sometimes the most impactful improvements are not massive overhauls.

In many cases, they involve operational improvements such as:

Faster response visibility

Improved communication workflows

More accessible panic systems

Better coordination between departments

Increased security presence in high-risk areas

Healthcare organizations are increasingly recognizing that effective security strategies cannot be designed in isolation.

They require collaboration between:

Security teams

Operations

HR

Patient experience

Facilities

Clinical leadership

IT and cybersecurity teams

This cross-functional approach is helping organizations build more practical, scalable, and sustainable safety programs.

And increasingly, healthcare organizations are realizing that security cannot operate in isolation from the broader patient and employee experience.

Aging Infrastructure Remains a Major Challenge

One challenge that surfaced repeatedly throughout the session was infrastructure.

Many healthcare facilities were not designed for today’s integrated security technologies.

Older hospitals often operate with legacy systems, fragmented infrastructure, and physical layouts that create integration challenges. That makes modernization significantly more difficult than simply deploying new technology.

In many cases, healthcare organizations are trying to modernize while still maintaining uninterrupted operations.

As organizations attempt to deploy modern AI, surveillance, and communication platforms, they must simultaneously work within aging environments that were never built for those capabilities.

That creates operational challenges involving:

Scalability

Network infrastructure

System compatibility

Budget limitations

Phased deployment planning

The session reinforced that successful modernization requires strategic planning rather than isolated technology deployments.

Healthcare environments are simply too complex for one-size-fits-all solutions.

Healthcare organizations increasingly need flexible, phased approaches that align with operational realities.

AI Is Expanding the Role of Healthcare Security

Artificial intelligence was another major topic throughout the discussion.

And unlike many conversations surrounding AI, the focus here was highly practical and operationally focused. The conversation centered less around hype and more around real-world operational value.

Healthcare organizations are beginning to deploy AI-driven technologies that support:

Real-time alerting

Threat identification

Visitor monitoring

Facial recognition workflows

Operational coordination

Incident response acceleration

Perimeter awareness

Behavioral analytics

The session highlighted how AI can help reduce operational strain by improving visibility and allowing teams to focus attention where it is needed most.

But there was also caution throughout the conversation.

AI systems that are poorly integrated or improperly implemented can create unnecessary noise, alert fatigue, and operational confusion.

The value of AI ultimately depends on how effectively it supports real operational decision-making.

Which means successful adoption depends heavily on:

Governance

Integration planning

Training

Operational alignment

Lifecycle management

The organizations that approach AI strategically will likely see significant long-term advantages.

Healthcare Security Must Become a Strategic Priority

Perhaps the clearest takeaway from the session was this:

Healthcare security can no longer be treated as a secondary operational function.

It directly impacts:

Workforce stability

Staff retention

Patient trust

Operational continuity

Emergency preparedness

Organizational resilience

The healthcare organizations making the most progress are the ones elevating security discussions beyond compliance and viewing safety as a long-term strategic investment.

Because in today’s healthcare environment, safety is no longer separate from operations.

It is becoming foundational to workforce stability, patient trust, and long-term organizational resilience.

Final Thoughts

The healthcare industry is operating under enormous pressure.

Healthcare organizations are being forced to balance patient care, workforce stability, operational efficiency, and safety simultaneously.

Staffing shortages, workplace violence, aging infrastructure, and rising operational demands are forcing organizations to rethink how they approach safety.

And increasingly, healthcare leaders are recognizing that traditional reactive security models are no longer enough.

The future of healthcare security will depend on integrated strategies that combine:

Technology

People

Operational processes

AI-driven insights

Cross-functional collaboration

Frontline worker engagement

Not simply to respond more effectively, but to create environments where healthcare workers feel safer, supported, and more capable of delivering care.

Because ultimately, stronger healthcare security is not just about reducing incidents.

It is about creating environments where people can continue doing some of the most important work in society safely and sustainably.

Because ultimately, protecting frontline healthcare workers is not just about security.

It is about protecting the long-term stability of healthcare itself.

August 2026 Security Update | Weather Readiness

The August 2026 Security Update highlights a common challenge facing security leaders: organizations must prepare for disruption even when the timing, location, and severity remain uncertain.

The August 2026 Security Update highlights a common challenge facing security leaders: organizations must prepare for disruption even when the timing, location, and severity remain uncertain.

Reporting from the past 30 days shows that severe weather, infrastructure failures, public safety incidents, civil unrest, and transportation disruption continue to affect business operations. These events may appear unrelated, but they create many of the same challenges. Facilities can lose access to essential systems. Employees may be unable to reach their locations. Supply chains can slow. Public facing properties may require additional support. Leadership teams may be forced to make decisions with limited information.

The central lesson is clear. Preparedness cannot depend on predicting exactly what will happen. It must focus on whether the organization can continue operating when normal conditions change.

Weather Preparedness Cannot Depend on Seasonal Predictions

NOAA’s updated Atlantic hurricane outlook gives the 2026 season a 75 percent chance of being below normal. The outlook calls for 7 to 13 named storms, 2 to 6 hurricanes, and up to 2 major hurricanes.

Those numbers may sound reassuring, but they do not predict where a storm will make landfall or which communities and businesses will be affected. NOAA emphasizes that even one hurricane or tropical storm can create a disaster. Most of the season’s remaining activity is also expected during August, September, and October.

A below normal season does not mean organizations can reduce their level of preparedness. It means they must understand the difference between overall probability and individual exposure.

For businesses, severe weather can create consequences far beyond physical storm damage:

Power and utility failures

Facility closures

Alarm and access control interruptions

Vacant or lightly staffed properties

Transportation delays

Employee safety concerns

Supply chain disruption

Increased demand for emergency resources

Delays reopening affected locations

Security and continuity planning should focus on these potential consequences rather than the predicted number of storms.

Our Hurricane Preparedness use case demonstrates why organizations must also consider the critical assets they depend on during recovery. Backup generators, fuel supplies, communications equipment, and temporary infrastructure may become more valuable and more vulnerable when normal operations are interrupted.

Infrastructure Disruption Is Testing Manual Continuity

Recent incidents have demonstrated how quickly a technology or infrastructure failure can create a physical operational problem.

A cyber incident affecting port business systems in North Carolina forced facilities to isolate affected technology and use manual gate procedures. Cargo handling equipment remained operational, but freight processing slowed because supporting business systems were unavailable.

Separately, federal authorities warned water and wastewater organizations about malicious activity targeting internet connected operational technology. These systems support essential physical services, meaning a digital intrusion can create consequences involving water pressure, equipment operation, alarms, and community services. CISA urged water and wastewater organizations to secure exposed operational technology and prepare manual operating procedures.

These incidents reinforce an important continuity question:

Can the organization continue operating if a critical system becomes unavailable?

Many organizations have emergency plans, but fewer regularly test how work will continue without normal technology. Manual procedures may exist in a document without being understood by the people expected to use them.

Organizations should know:

Which systems are essential to daily operations

Which locations can continue operating without those systems

Which processes have a manual alternative

Who has the authority to activate those procedures

How long manual operations can be sustained

What conditions would require a closure

How systems will be restored safely

This also connects with the challenge explored in The Hidden Cost of False Alarms in Security Systems. Whether the issue is an excessive number of alerts or the sudden loss of a critical platform, security teams need reliable information and clear procedures to make effective decisions.

Public Facing Locations Require Local Readiness

Recent violence affecting commercial and public facing locations serves as another reminder that an organization does not need to be the intended target to experience serious consequences.

An incident near a store, entertainment district, government building, transportation hub, or public gathering place can create access restrictions, employee safety concerns, temporary closures, increased law enforcement activity, and reputational pressure.

The most effective response often depends on decisions made at the location level.

Employees and managers should understand:

How to report concerning behavior

When to shelter or evacuate

Who can close or restrict access to a facility

How leadership will account for employees

How customers and visitors will receive instructions

When security or law enforcement should be contacted

What must happen before the location can reopen

A corporate emergency plan is only effective when individual facilities know how to apply it. Clear local responsibilities, current contact information, and practiced communication procedures can significantly improve response.

Civil Unrest Remains Localized but Operationally Relevant

Civil unrest reporting during the past 30 days has generally reflected a low to moderate risk environment. Most planned demonstrations have remained localized, issue specific, and manageable through standard monitoring.

However, even a peaceful demonstration can affect nearby organizations through traffic delays, pedestrian congestion, road closures, increased security presence, or temporary access restrictions.

Recurring activity has focused on immigration enforcement, international conflict, Palestine solidarity, and other political or social issues. Facilities near government buildings, detention centers, diplomatic locations, universities, airports, civic gathering areas, and major commercial corridors may face greater exposure.

The objective is not to treat every demonstration as a security emergency. It is to understand proximity and operational impact.

Organizations should monitor:

Planned activity near important locations

Changes in event size or tone

Counterprotest potential

Road closures and transportation impacts

Law enforcement posture

Employee travel routes

Access to parking areas and loading zones

Changes that may affect opening or closing decisions

Transportation and Supply Chains Remain Exposed

International security developments continue to create uncertainty across shipping routes, ports, aviation, energy markets, and supply chains.

Recent maritime threats in the Red Sea and near the Bab el Mandeb Strait have reinforced concerns about vessel routing, port access, insurance costs, delivery times, and energy transportation. Even organizations without direct operations in the region may experience indirect effects through vendors, freight carriers, inventory availability, or changing transportation costs.

Supply chain continuity should not be limited to identifying an alternate supplier. Organizations also need to understand the transportation routes, ports, technologies, contractors, and infrastructure supporting those suppliers.

Security and operations teams should consider:

Which products depend on a single transportation route

Which vendors rely on the same ports or logistics providers

Whether critical inventory can support a delay

How quickly alternate routing can be activated

Which contracts define responsibility during disruption

How customers and internal stakeholders will be informed

The strongest continuity programs look beyond the immediate vendor and examine the complete chain of dependencies supporting the organization.

What Organizations Should Be Doing Now

The August 2026 Security Update reinforces that organizations should use this period to review practical readiness across facilities and operations.

Important areas include:

Confirm emergency contacts and decision authority

Review location specific weather procedures

Identify facilities exposed to power, flooding, wildfire, or transportation disruption

Test manual procedures for critical systems

Confirm backup staffing and security resources

Review employee communication and accountability processes

Monitor planned demonstrations near important locations

Evaluate critical vendor and transportation dependencies

Define closure, escalation, and reopening criteria

Conduct scenario exercises before an incident occurs

Preparedness does not require an organization to predict every possible threat. It requires leaders to understand their most important dependencies and establish clear procedures for protecting them.

Final Thoughts

The past 30 days show why security is becoming an increasingly important part of business continuity.

Weather events, infrastructure failures, public safety incidents, demonstrations, and transportation disruption may develop differently, but they often create the same operational questions. Who makes the decision? How will employees be protected? Can the facility continue operating? What happens if a critical system is unavailable? How quickly can the organization adapt?

Forecasts and intelligence provide valuable awareness, but they cannot eliminate uncertainty. The strongest organizations prepare around consequences rather than predictions.

At NJB Protection, we continue to monitor emerging security conditions and translate them into practical considerations for organizations. Staying informed helps leaders understand what may happen. Preparedness determines how effectively they respond.

Secure the Door, Keep the Exit

Why classroom security cannot be reduced to one piece of hardware

A classroom door can do two urgent jobs at the same time.

It can help keep a threat out.

It must also let people get out.

That sounds obvious. In practice, it is where school-security decisions become complicated. After a frightening incident, a visible hardware fix can feel decisive. A secondary lock or barricade device appears to offer something immediate: more resistance, more control, more reassurance.

But a device added to a door does not affect only the threat outside the room. It can also change how a student exits, how a person with a disability operates the hardware, how staff respond under stress, how a fire door performs, and how an authorized responder enters.

The right question is bigger than, “Can this keep someone out?”

The right question is, “Can this opening protect people across the emergencies and everyday conditions the school actually has to manage?”

A Classroom Lock Is an Operating System

Door security is often discussed as if the hardware operates alone. It does not.

The full system includes:

The door, frame, hinges, closer, latch, glazing, and surrounding wall

The locking function and the way it is activated

Free egress from inside the room

Accessibility for the people expected to use it

Authorized access from the corridor

Fire-door listings and other life-safety functions

Keys, credentials, and responder procedures

Inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair

Staff training, drills, and emergency plans

A product can perform exactly as advertised and still be the wrong fit for the opening, the occupancy, the local code, or the operating plan.

That is why the evaluation cannot start and end with a demonstration video.

Free Egress Is a Security Requirement

Security teams sometimes talk about egress as a constraint imposed by another department. That framing misses the point.

The ability to leave a room quickly is part of protecting the people inside it.

DOJ accessibility standards require covered door hardware to be usable in ways that do not demand tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist. Door Security & Safety Foundation guidance also emphasizes a practical combination: staff should be able to secure a classroom from inside without opening the door, occupants should be able to exit without first unlocking it, and authorized personnel should retain the ability to unlock it from outside.

Those are not minor technical details. They shape what happens when the person at the door is a child, a substitute teacher, a wheelchair user, a visitor, or someone acting under extreme stress.

If a security measure requires special knowledge, unusual strength, extra steps, or perfect recall, it deserves a harder review.

Outside Access Still Matters

A device designed to stop entry may also stop the people who need to enter.

That matters during a medical emergency, a fire, an internal assault, a student behavioral crisis, or any event where the problem is already inside the room. A school cannot evaluate an exterior threat while ignoring internal hazards.

Authorized outside access should therefore be treated as a design requirement, not a convenience.

Ask the practical question: can the right person open this door from the corridor when every second matters?

If the answer changes depending on which device was deployed, who has the tool, or whether responders know what the building installed, the operating risk is not resolved.

A Quick Fix Can Create a Long-Term Exception

Temporary security decisions have a habit of becoming permanent.

A device purchased during a moment of urgency may remain in classrooms for years. Staff changes. Door hardware is repaired or replaced. Training cycles come and go. The original reason for the purchase becomes institutional memory rather than documented policy.

That is why every retrofit needs an owner and a lifecycle:

Who approved it?

Which authority having jurisdiction reviewed it?

Which openings are covered?

What inspection confirms continued safe operation?

What training is required for new staff and substitutes?

How will first responders know what they may encounter?

What event triggers repair, replacement, or removal?

Without those answers, the organization has not implemented a security control. It has installed an exception.

Training Cannot Rescue a Confusing Design

Training matters, but it should reinforce intuitive operation rather than compensate for confusing hardware.

Under pressure, people return to familiar movements. They reach for the lever. They push the exit device. They follow the action they have practiced in ordinary use.

That makes daily operation part of emergency readiness. A door that staff routinely prop open, leave unlocked, or avoid using correctly will not become dependable because a drill begins.

The strongest programs connect hardware with behavior:

Staff know how to secure the room without stepping into the corridor.

Occupants can leave without searching for a tool or remembering a special sequence.

Authorized personnel can gain access from outside.

Doors close and latch as intended during normal operation.

Inspection findings become assigned repair work, not a spreadsheet entry.

Drills test the actual door functions and decision points.

Seven Questions Before Approving a Classroom Door Change

Before a school buys, installs, or expands a locking or barricade solution, security and facilities leaders should ask:

1. Which specific threat and operating problem are we trying to address?

2. Can occupants exit freely without a key, tool, or special knowledge?

3. Can people with different physical abilities operate the hardware?

4. Can authorized staff and responders unlock and open the door from outside?

5. Does the change preserve the door assembly’s fire and life-safety functions?

6. Has the authority having jurisdiction reviewed the exact proposed configuration?

7. Who owns inspection, maintenance, training, and responder coordination after installation?

If those answers come from different departments, bring the departments together before approving the purchase.

The Bottom Line

Schools should secure classrooms. They should also resist the pressure to measure security by how difficult a door looks to defeat.

The real standard is whether the full system works for the people inside the building across the situations they may face.

Secure the door.

Keep the exit.

Do both on purpose.

How Security Businesses Can Navigate Market Shifts and Build Resilience

Why Resilience Is Becoming the Industry’s Greatest Competitive Advantage

For years, many security companies built their businesses around growth.

More projects.
More clients.
More expansion.
More hiring.

But today, security business market shifts are forcing organizations to rethink how they operate, scale, and prepare for uncertainty.

As security business market shifts continue accelerating across the industry, resilience is becoming just as important as growth.

And during strong markets, traditional growth strategies often worked.

But one of the clearest themes from ISC West this year was that growth alone is no longer enough.

The companies that endure market shifts are not simply the ones growing the fastest.

They are the ones built to adapt when conditions change.

Because uncertainty is no longer occasional.

It has become part of the operating environment.

Economic pressure

Supply chain instability

Labor shortages

Technology disruption

Changing customer expectations

The market is constantly shifting.

And resilience is becoming one of the most valuable assets a security business can build.

Data Visibility Is Becoming a Survival Tool

One of the strongest themes throughout the session was the importance of visibility into the business.

Not assumptions.
Not instincts alone.
Real operational and financial data.

The panel repeatedly emphasized the role of KPIs, forecasting, backlog tracking, and recurring revenue in helping organizations navigate uncertainty with confidence.

Because when markets tighten, companies without visibility often overreact.

And overreaction creates long-term damage.

The businesses that remain stable are the ones that understand their numbers well enough to make strategic decisions instead of emotional ones.

Everything from service response times to average revenue per call to backlog forecasting was discussed as part of building operational stability.

And importantly, the panel stressed that KPIs should not live only at the executive level.

The most successful organizations are creating ownership across the business.

That includes:

Operations teams

Service departments

Accounting

Sales

Project management

Everyone understands the numbers.
Everyone contributes to the outcome.

That alignment creates accountability, consistency, and stronger decision-making across the organization.

Companies navigating security business market shifts successfully are relying heavily on operational visibility and real-time business intelligence.

Recurring Revenue Creates Stability During Market Shifts

Recurring revenue emerged as one of the biggest differentiators between companies that remain stable and those that struggle during market slowdowns.

Several panelists discussed how recurring revenue helps remove volatility from the business and creates a more predictable operating model.

That consistency matters.

Especially when project sales begin slowing or clients delay capital spending.

Organizations with strong service programs, managed services, monitoring, and long-term customer relationships are often far better positioned to weather uncertainty than companies relying entirely on new installations.

The businesses that endure are not rebuilding revenue from scratch every month.

They are intentionally building stability into the model itself.

For companies navigating security business market shifts, recurring revenue is becoming one of the most important long-term advantages.

Cash Flow Discipline Matters More Than Ever

Cash flow management was another major topic throughout the discussion.

One panelist put it simply:

Sending invoices is not enough.

Collecting them matters just as much.

Because during uncertain markets, poor cash management forces businesses into reactive decisions.

And reactive decisions are often the ones companies regret later.

During security business market shifts, organizations without strong cash discipline often find themselves making reactive decisions too late.

The panel repeatedly warned against panic-driven responses to economic slowdowns.

Examples included:

Cutting too aggressively

Making knee-jerk staffing decisions

Abandoning long-term strategy because of short-term pressure

Overextending operationally during uncertainty

Several speakers referenced COVID as a defining example.

Some organizations reacted immediately with layoffs and severe cuts.

Others stayed disciplined, protected their teams, and focused on long-term operational health instead of short-term fear.

Many of those companies emerged significantly stronger afterward.

Because resilience is not only financial.

It is cultural.

Culture Determines How Organizations Respond Under Pressure

People and culture became one of the most important parts of the conversation.

One speaker compared business leadership to professional sports teams constantly evaluating and developing talent.

But the larger point was not simply hiring better people.

It was protecting and developing the right people over time.

The panel emphasized that employees remember how organizations respond during difficult periods.

Clients remember it too.

So do vendors and partners.

Transparency, consistency, and communication become even more important when uncertainty increases.

Several speakers discussed the importance of frequent communication during difficult periods.

Not corporate speeches.
Not overcomplicated messaging.

Just honest, consistent updates.

Because when leadership stops communicating, uncertainty spreads internally very quickly.

Strong organizations reduce fear through visibility and clarity.

Especially during difficult markets.

How Security Businesses Are Navigating Market Shifts

Another major takeaway from the session was the shift happening across the security industry itself.

The most successful companies are no longer thinking of themselves strictly as security integrators.

They are positioning themselves as solution providers.

That distinction matters.

Clients are no longer simply looking for hardware installation.

They are looking for partners who can solve operational problems.

That may include:

GSOC management

Risk assessments

Managed services

Operational consulting

Monitoring solutions

Access control

Surveillance

Staffing support

Analytics and intelligence

The companies creating the most long-term value are often the ones willing to expand beyond traditional categories and focus on outcomes instead of products.

One panelist described it as becoming a “Swiss Army knife” for the customer.

Not necessarily by doing everything internally.

But by being willing to solve the problem.

That mindset is becoming a major competitive advantage during security business market shifts.

Flexibility Is Becoming a Competitive Advantage

Flexibility surfaced repeatedly throughout the session.

One of the more interesting discussions centered around outsourcing and strategic partnerships.

Rather than trying to manage every function internally, some organizations are leveraging specialized partners for areas like project management and operational support.

The result has been:

Improved project execution

Higher customer satisfaction

Better scalability

Stronger communication

Reduced operational strain

The conversation reinforced that adaptability is becoming one of the industry’s most important business traits.

Flexibility is quickly becoming one of the defining advantages during security business market shifts.

Rigid organizations struggle during market shifts.

Flexible organizations find ways to grow through them.

Vendor Relationships Are More Important Than Ever

Supply chain instability and pricing pressure also remained major concerns.

Although the industry has stabilized significantly since the height of the chip shortages, panelists discussed growing concerns around tariffs, AI-related hardware demand, and future pricing increases.

The message was clear.

Strong vendor relationships matter more than ever.

Not transactional relationships.

Real partnerships built on communication, planning, and transparency.

Because when disruptions happen, manufacturers and integrators who collaborate effectively are far more likely to navigate challenges successfully together.

And in many cases, those conversations now need to happen earlier than ever before.

Scalable Businesses Cannot Rely on Tribal Knowledge

One of the most valuable discussions during the session centered around tribal knowledge and organizational scalability.

As companies grow, operational knowledge often becomes concentrated in a handful of individuals.

And that creates risk.

The panel emphasized the importance of cross-training, documentation, mentorship, and intentional knowledge sharing to prevent organizations from becoming dependent on single points of failure.

That includes:

Cross-training employees

Documenting operational knowledge

Building mentorship programs

Sharing technical expertise internally

Creating scalable processes

Because scalable businesses cannot rely on one person knowing everything.

Long-term resilience requires systems, process, and knowledge transfer.

Not just experience.

The Workforce Is Changing Alongside the Industry

Another important point focused on hiring and workforce development.

The panel acknowledged that the industry is going through a major transition.

Technology is evolving faster than ever before.

Everything is changing simultaneously:

Sales cycles

Client expectations

Required skill sets

Technology adoption

Service delivery models

And many organizations are still trying to determine what the ideal modern security professional actually looks like.

The consensus?

Technical skills matter.

But curiosity, adaptability, communication, and culture fit may matter even more.

Because technology can be taught.

Mindset is much harder to teach.

Final Thoughts

If there was one overall message from the session, it was this:

Resilient security businesses are not built during difficult times.

They are built before difficult times arrive.

Through:

Operational discipline

Financial visibility

Recurring revenue

Strong leadership

Strategic partnerships

Adaptability

Transparency

Cultures that can handle uncertainty without losing focus

Because market shifts are inevitable.

But whether a company survives them often depends on how intentionally it prepared beforehand.

The organizations successfully navigating security business market shifts are the ones investing in resilience long before disruption occurs, rather than reacting after the market changes.

The Rise of the Security Operations Center (SOC) | How Centralized Security Is Transforming Modern Protection

(And Why Centralized Security Is Changing Everything.)

For years, security meant being on-site. Guards at gates. Supervisors on patrol. Cameras in a control room across the building.
But now, the most effective command posts aren’t even in the same zip code.

(And Why Centralized Security Is Changing Everything.)

For years, security meant being on-site. Guards at gates. Supervisors on patrol. Cameras in a control room across the building.
But now, the most effective command posts aren’t even in the same zip code.

Security Operations Centers (SOCs) are redefining how organizations manage safety, security, and response. By centralizing monitoring, analytics, and decision-making into one hub, companies are doing more with less—without sacrificing visibility or speed.

It’s not science fiction. It’s the new standard for operational intelligence.

The Problem with On-Site Fragmentation

Traditional security operations often suffer from one big flaw: they’re scattered.
Each facility, warehouse, or campus runs its own setup—different cameras, access control systems, reporting tools, and teams. That means:

Data lives in silos

Incidents take longer to escalate

Visibility across sites is nearly impossible

If you’ve ever tried to coordinate a response across multiple locations, you know the pain. Delays, miscommunication, and inconsistent training can make even simple issues feel chaotic.

And when critical events happen—every second lost matters.

Enter the Security Operations Center (SOC)

An SOC takes all of that chaos and brings it under one roof—virtually.

Think of it as a mission control for your security ecosystem. Every feed, every alert, every access event—streamed and managed from one centralized location.

Instead of 10 separate command posts, you have one unified team with a 360° view.
That means:

✅ Faster detection – AI-powered analytics flag threats in real time.
✅ Smarter coordination – Operators see the full picture, not just their corner of it.
✅ Streamlined response – Dispatch, escalation, and communication all happen instantly.
✅ Scalable coverage – Monitor multiple facilities—across cities, states, or even countries—without adding more headcount.

Technology Is the Enabler, Not the Replacement

A Security Operations Center doesn’t eliminate people—it empowers them.
AI, automation, and data visualization help operators make faster, better-informed decisions.

Thermal imaging can identify anomalies across large perimeters.
Access control data can trigger alerts when patterns shift.
Video analytics can spot suspicious movement before it becomes a problem.

But the human element still matters most.
The SOC is where technology and human intelligence converge—and that’s where modern security wins.

Real-World Applications

Retail chains use SOCs to oversee hundreds of stores with a fraction of the local staff.

Utilities monitor remote substations, power plants, and field assets without sending patrols daily.

Corporate campuses unify access control, visitor management, and video feeds into one integrated view.

Transportation hubs track vehicles, deliveries, and personnel in real time.

In every case, the SOC isn’t just watching—it’s driving decisions.

The ROI of Centralization

The beauty of a Security Operations Center is that it scales intelligently.
Instead of hiring dozens of guards to monitor individual sites, you can train a specialized team that sees and manages all sites simultaneously.

That leads to:

Reduced labor costs

Better response times

Consistent reporting and accountability

Data you can actually analyze

And when everything is centralized, you gain something priceless—control.

Final Thoughts

The future of security isn’t on the ground—it’s in the cloud.
Security Operations Centers are reshaping how organizations think about awareness, efficiency, and protection.

The question isn’t if you’ll move toward centralization.
It’s how soon.

How do you see centralization changing the way security operates in the next five years?

May 2026 Security Update: Operational Readiness & Risk

May 2026 Update

Over the past several months, organizations across the United States have been operating in an increasingly dynamic security environment.

May 2026 Update

Over the past several months, organizations across the United States have been operating in an increasingly dynamic security environment.

From large-scale protest activity and transportation disruptions to geopolitical instability and infrastructure concerns, security leaders are facing growing pressure to maintain operational continuity while responding to rapidly changing conditions.

Recent reporting has highlighted planned demonstrations across dozens of U.S. cities, increased global supply chain pressure, growing cyber resilience concerns, and operational strain tied to transportation and emergency response systems.

While many incidents remain manageable, the broader trend is pushing organizations to reevaluate how prepared they are for disruptions that can escalate quickly and impact operations with little warning.

The Shift Toward Operational Preparedness

Historically, many organizations viewed security planning primarily through a physical protection lens. Today, the conversation is much broader.

Operational preparedness now includes:

Business continuity planning

Escalation and communication workflows

Workforce mobility considerations

Infrastructure resilience

Cyber disruption readiness

Vendor and supply chain continuity

Transportation and access planning

The focus is no longer just preventing incidents. It is ensuring organizations can continue operating effectively when conditions become unstable.

Why Continuity Planning Is Becoming More Important

Several trends are contributing to this shift.

Increased Demonstration Activity

Recent civil unrest reporting identified protest activity across major and secondary U.S. markets, including demonstrations near universities, government districts, transportation corridors, and commercial locations.

Even peaceful demonstrations can create:

Traffic and transportation disruptions

Access control challenges

Delayed response times

Employee safety concerns

Increased demand on security teams

For organizations operating multiple locations nationally, these disruptions can quickly create operational strain.

Infrastructure and Transportation Concerns

Global reporting continues to identify elevated concern around:

Transportation reliability

Maritime logistics disruption

Fuel volatility

Cross-border supply chain pressure

Critical infrastructure resilience

Organizations are increasingly recognizing that operational disruptions often begin outside their own facilities.

A delayed shipment, transportation bottleneck, regional power disruption, or communication outage can quickly affect staffing, operations, and customer experience.

Security Fatigue and Operational Pressure

Another growing concern is the sustained pressure placed on monitoring teams, operations centers, and security personnel.

As organizations process more alerts, more intelligence, and more incidents simultaneously, fatigue becomes a real operational risk.

High information volume and constant escalation activity can impact:

Decision-making

Communication clarity

Response consistency

Escalation speed

Situational awareness

This is one reason many organizations are reviewing:

Alert prioritization

Escalation ownership

Communication procedures

Incident response workflows

Redundancy and backup protocols

Technology continues to improve visibility, but operational effectiveness still depends heavily on people and processes.

The Organizations Best Positioned Moving Forward

The organizations adapting best to current conditions are not necessarily the ones with the most technology.

They are the organizations with:

Clear communication procedures

Defined escalation paths

Flexible response capabilities

Strong situational awareness

Coordinated operational planning

Reliable continuity strategies

Preparedness is increasingly becoming an operational advantage.

Final Thoughts

Security challenges today are rarely isolated events.

Operational disruptions, civil unrest, cyber concerns, infrastructure strain, and geopolitical instability are increasingly interconnected and capable of impacting organizations quickly and unexpectedly.

As a result, more organizations are shifting their focus from reactive security measures toward proactive operational readiness.

The goal is not simply responding to incidents.

It is maintaining continuity, communication, and confidence when operating conditions become unpredictable.
